Graduate Program in ESL

The program in English as a Second Language (ESL)* in the College of Liberal Arts offers a course of study leading to the Master of Arts in English as a Second Language. Degree holders are qualified to teach ESL to adults at the college or university level both in the U.S. and abroad, in corporate settings internationally, and in adult basic education settings in the U.S. If you are interested in teaching ESL in a K-12 setting, contact the Program in Second Languages and Cultures in the College of Education and Human Development.

Opportunities to carry out independent and creative research through Plan A theses and Plan B qualifying papers
One semester of a teaching practicum in an on-going ESL class, supervised by experienced mentor teachers

A world-renowned faculty who support students in designing and conducting research as well as in presenting such research at local, national, and international conferences and reporting it in scholarly journals

* The Program in English as a Second Language will become the Program in Second Language Studies in January 2010.
