Ever wanted to become an attorney?
Emerging Leaders in the Law (ELL) is a program that seeks to increase equal access to justice for all people with the belief that in order to truly have equal access to justice, all identities must be represented in the legal profession. SLS seeks to advance this goal by inspiring the next generation of leaders in the law. People of color, Queer and Trans folks, people living with disabilities, and women must have a seat at the table to achieve our highest aspirations.
ELL Undergraduate Externship
Student Legal Service's Emerging Leaders in the Law (ELL) externship is held each year from late July through the third week of August. General information and the application for the externship will be posted each year near the end of Spring semester, and applications are accepted until the week prior to the start date of the program.
During the externship students will connect and network with law students, lawyers, judges, and other professionals working in legal careers; learn about choosing, applying for, and funding law school; and gain a better understanding of the American legal system through experiential and educational activities.
Participants should expect to commit 3-4 hours per day 2 days per week (each day has a morning and afternoon session) with a hybrid of in-person and remote sessions. Once registration is closed, we will decide which days to meet based on participant availability indicated in the applications.
Undergraduate students entering their junior and senior years will be given preference, but all undergraduates are encouraged to apply.
If you have further questions about applying for the program, please contact the SLS office at 612-624-1001, or email us at [email protected].
